Description:

A well-preserved and rare 2-gallon stoneware jug, with clear and elaborate floral decoration to three sides and the handle, circa 1870. Cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and the gallon mark, both present on the front beneath the stout. Pottery emerging from the Newport, PA shop of brothers Michael and Theophilus Miller was described by historians as some of the finest in the region. This is a rather well-preserved jug with minimal chips and cracks outlined in the condition description. The jug stands out among other M. & T. Miller pieces for it's extensive decoration around the front and both sides, with accents to the connection points of the handle.

12.75" ht.; 7.5" diameter at the spout, 8.25" diameter at the base.
