Description:

Miriam Smith Peck (Cleveland, 1910-1984).  An exceptional watercolor on paper depicting an abstract still life with exceptional pedigree.  Accompanying the work is an original reward from the "May Show", the annual Cleveland show at the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as several labels on verso, including the 1951 May Show label.  Signed on verso, and housed under glass in an ogee frame; 22" x 29.5" (sight), 28" x 35" (framed).

Miriam Peck was an enamalist, painter, and artist of numerous exploratory mediums throughout her career, primarily working in Cleveland.  She was from a family of artists, often dubbed the "Painting Pecks", who consisted of her mother Edith (also represented in this sale), and brother James.  Miriam showed her work frequently at the notable "May Show" at the Cleveland Museum of Art.  This particular work won an award in watercolor, and amazingly, still includes the award label issued her with the work itself.
